The final result is a facade which is largely indistinguishable from timber by sight. It neatly completes a stunning design that is sympathetic to its surroundings, yet is at the same time both strikingly modern and distinct.

Designed to embrace the natural surroundings of Mission Bay, Horizon Apartments offers panoramic views of the Hauraki Gulf, islands and greenery situated to the north.
The exterior was to be softened with the use of timber, linking the building to its surrounds and adding a a gentle warmth to both the appearance and feel of the high end apartments.
That required warmth and the natural appearance of timber is cleverly combined with the longevity and in-combustibility benefits of aluminium louvres.
The louvres are finished with a woodgrain powder coat, which provides the highly realistic appearance of timber. This is achieved through a process of sublimation, where the woodgrain image is 'printed' into (rather than onto) the surface. The result is the appearance of a wooden facade that will not deteriorate, fade or otherwise age as timber will. Additionally, it requires less maintenance and upkeep.
