The balcony at Harbor Hospice offers a brief respite from the serious reasons patients and visitors have for being there.  Stepping out onto it provides a breath of fresh air and a moment in the sun.  And sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed. 

The new showroom, warehouse and office complex at 2 Toorea Street in Papamoa is an example of functional and aesthetic simplicity.  Everything works, adding impact without unnecessary detail, creating a building that has a meaningful presence and will be noticed by those who travel past it.

Te Kura o Manunui is the award-winning reimagined Brookfield School.  Designed for students and the wider community, it’s a civic hub that represents the blending of cultures with a design narrative that honours the past while setting up young minds for the future. 

The tensioned fabric facade at 120 Victoria Street can block up to 78% of solar heat and is 100% recyclable.  Finished in a Chocco colour, it visually separates the 4 commercial units from the 83 apartments above. 

Quad 19 consists of three apartments, occupying a prime position in St Heliers Bay, each blessed with the kind of views that can entertain occupants for hours, even if very little is happening outside.  Which is precisely the point. 

Atkinson House was a 6 storey office building which had fallen vacant and into disrepair following the departure of Government Departments.  Following a significant refurbishment by Taranaki iwi Te Atiawa, it would become Ngamotu House, with a facade designed to honour Rongoueroa, a Te Atiawa ancestor, by taking the form of a parawai and symbolically embracing the building.

The Waiaroha Heretaunga Discovery Centre quenches more than a literal thirst.  It also quenches a thirst for education, with interactive displays providing an important learning experience, and the thirst for turning the usually hidden infrastructure into something aesthetically pleasing that residents can take confidence from and celebrate. 

The warehouses at 25-27 Landing Drive add to the strong design philosophy underpinning the Landing Business Park development by Auckland International Airport Limited.  The distinctive chamfered louvre blades of the Solaris range offer shade and style as part of a sophisticated aesthetic that is gaining attention, and possibly an award, as a finalist in the 2024 Property Industry Awards. 

Napiers' reinstated war memorial pays homage to the 1957 Guy Natusch original.  The design is undoubtedly mindful of its purpose, creating a place for reflection and remembrance.  Beyond the louvres by the entrance, a canopy guides visitors to the plaques and eternal flame, to a place where they can stand in respectful peace, a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives so we might enjoy it. 

Blue Mountains Campus is a model example of sustainable development, with each stage achieving or on target to achieve a 5 Star Green Rating and/or a 5 Star NABERSNZ rating.  Solaris Louvres are used to reduce thermal gain during the summer.  In winter, they do the opposite, allowing the maximum amount of  natural daylight and warmth to enter the building.
